Fresh on the heels of Hurricane Sandy, the Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW) cult is seeking to peddle their lies with a new peer reviewed study. From NBC:
“Projections for sea level rise in coming decades could be too conservative, experts warned Wednesday, saying they found that the rise over the last two decades is much more than predicted by the U.N. scientific body tracking climate signals.”
“In a peer-reviewed study, the experts said satellite data show sea levels rose by 3.2 millimeters (0.1 inch) a year from 1993 to 2011 — 60 percent faster than the 2 mm annual rise projected by the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for that period.”
And what is causing this rise in sea levels? Again from the NBC article (emphasis mine):
“The experts added that the faster sea level rise is unlikely to be caused by a temporary ice discharge from Greenland or Antarctica ice sheets because it correlates very well with the increase in global temperature.”
So sea levels are rising because the Earth is getting warmer. That sounds like a good theory but unfortunately the data don’t back it up. Here are global temperature anomaly graphs from two different data sets going back to 1997.
The global temperature anomalies have been flat for the past 15 years so I don’t see how the ‘scientists’ arrive at the conclusion that the Earth has experienced an increase in global temperatures. Oh wait, there is one explanation – it’s called cooking the books.
I review the global temperature anomalies and atmospheric CO2 concentrations every three months on this blog and I’m due another update at the end of December but you can find my latest one here.
