Apparently the United States has turned into a 3rd world dictatorship that requires the United Nations to monitor voting locations to ensure the process is fair.
“United Nations-affiliated election monitors from Europe and central Asia will be at polling places around the U.S. looking for voter suppression activities by conservative groups, a concern raised by civil rights groups during a meeting this week. The intervention has drawn criticism from a prominent conservative-leaning group combating election fraud.”
So what exactly caused civil rights groups to believe that Conservatives are attempting to suppress votes?
“Civil rights groups have complained about what they say are subtle efforts of intimidation. They point to a billboard campaign in swing states such as Ohio warning voter fraud is a felony punishable by up to three and a half years in prison and a $10,000 fine.”
Here is a picture of the billboard from an NPR article:
So this is what the US nanny state has come to – A billboard that merely reminds people that voter fraud is a felony is considered attempted voter suppression. Give me a break! We all know that the only people who are upset with this billboard are those who are hoping for voter fraud to push their candidate to victory. Citizens who have no desire to commit voter fraud will not be affected by this billboard, will not give it more than a few seconds thought and will not change their voting plans in November.
How silly is the ‘logic’ employed by people who are upset with the billboard shown above? It’s easy to show by using a similar style billboard.
Anti drunk driving billboards are currently on display in almost every large metropolitan city in the US and they have the same goal as the voter fraud billboard. What is the goal of billboards that tell people that driving drunk is a crime? These advertisements are meant to remind people that local police are out in force to crack down on this illegal activity and hopefully some individuals will get the message and take a cab home when they’ve had too much to drink. Are these billboards intimidating sober drivers and scaring them to the point where they are afraid to drive to the grocery when they haven’t had a drop of alcohol to drink? Of course not! The only people offended by the anti drunk driving billboards are those who participate in this illegal and dangerous activity.
If extra independent observers were requested to monitor polling locations because of such known illegal activity as when the New Black Panthers intimidated voters in 2008 then I could see a justification for that but doing this over a billboard that is just stating the laws that are on the books is ridiculous.
And who gave the UN authority to do this in the first place? Just another reason to kick the UN out of our country as this sad organization has shown time and time again how useless they are. We should stop funding for them immediately, pull out of the organization and tell them to find a new home.
