I received a letter from Honda stating that my 2003 Odyssey needs to have its SRS electronic control unit repaired because there is a possibility that the air bag will deploy in a non-crash scenario. A portion of the letter is shown below and the highlighted sentence is what I’d call a gross understatement!
“An airbag that inadvertently deploys while the vehicle is in motion may distract the driver, increasing the risk of a crash.”
Yea, it would be a little distracting if my airbag deploys while I’m driving 65 mph on the interstate.
I’ll be taking my van into the Honda dealer soon!
Just a little understatement LOL I’d drive slowly for a while if I 🙂 were you.
Wow, Cosmo, you ain’t kidding that’s the Understatement of the Year.
Take it from an old insurance guy:
Getting hit with the airbag has been known to cause a cornucopia of nasty stuff, including swelling of the nose, black eyes, etc.,.. Depends on many factors, including how close to the bag you are when it deploys.
Quite literally, a solid propellant causes it to explode out of the casing at up to 200mph. Now in a crash situation, that is far preferable to hitting the steering wheel or the windshield.
But it’s not like being hit with a pillow or a pair of socks, either….
JUST a bit…
